Try changing you exercise and your posture to ensure you are doing it right.

One mistake that many people do when doing abdominal workouts is that they get very excited in the start. Instead of taking a realistic approach they try to put in too much effort the first few times, pushing the limit of their body and ignoring signs of fatigue. This gives their body pain and most of the time they end up just giving up on the whole thing because they think it is too hard to do. A much better approach is to start slow and steady. This will result in your body getting eased into a workout routine and it will become a habit to do these workouts.

Another thing to be kept in mind is that just like your face; your body shape is also different than other people. So you cannot just look at a picture and aspire to have abs shaped like that. You have your own shape which is different from others. This happens due to genetics and you cannot change it. Abdominal workouts make your abs stronger which is very helpful in all sorts of activities. If doing some work gives you pain in your back it means that your abs is not strong enough.

Eating proper food is important along with exercise. Try to consume foods which are high in protein as these help in burning the proteins off of your body. Do not be fooled into pushing yourself more than you can do, just change your eating habits and do the right sort of abdominal workouts. You will find out that you can get great abs in a small time and without having to obsess over it too much. It is all a matter of control.
